JMIR journals are very cost-effective, in particular taking into account the quality and level of service.
Authors should also consider that:
- all articles in JMIR journals are routinely copyedited by external freelance copyeditors. At other journals, such services are not included but need to be paid extra
- all articles are XML-marked up and deposited in PubMed Central, free of charge for the author. This is not necessarily the case for our competitor journals (e.g. Elseviers' Internet Interventions)
- all journals are open access, and authors retain copyright
- there are no length-restrictions on articles or extra page charges for lengthy manuscripts
- our APF/APCs charged to authors with grant-funding subsidize/support our fee waiver program for needy authors
- some of our institutional memberships make publication in JMIR journals free for faculty and students, see e.g. APF Support for Corresponding Authors from the University of California
