Once an article is accepted, author details (names, degrees, affiliations, ORCID, and email addresses) and the manuscript file are locked and can no longer be edited directly by authors.
Any new changes are discouraged at this stage. If you identify an essential correction or error after acceptance, please contact our support team for assistance at support@jmir.org.
To make changes before acceptance, visit: Editing or correcting article metadata before acceptance.
What happens after acceptance
Once your manuscript is accepted, it enters the production phase to prepare it for publication.
Throughout this process, your designated Production Editor and Copyeditor will be in touch with you to guide your article through its revision stages and final layout.
During the different stages of production, you will be asked to review and approve all edits made to your manuscript, including copyediting adjustments, formatting, and proof corrections. You should carefully and thoroughly review the complete content of your manuscript at this time, including all associated article and author metadata.
Please note that once production is complete, further changes cannot be made.
Changing your email address after acceptance
Metadata is locked at acceptance, so you can no longer update your own email address once your article is accepted. This matters because the License to Publish form is emailed to every author during the publishing process, using whichever address was on file at the time of acceptance. An outdated email address means you may miss the form entirely.
If you need to correct an email address after acceptance, contact support directly at support@jmir.org so they can update it on your behalf and ensure the License to Publish form (and any other author communications) reach the right person.
Finding an error after publication
Once an article is published, corrections go through the corrigendum process instead. Refer to: We published a paper in JMIR and have a correction. What is the process of publishing a corrigendum?
