Often, press officers send out press releases before an actual study is published, and request that reporters report the study only after a certain embargo period.
We discourage this practice. We encourage authors and press officers to send out press releases after or on the day of publication, containing a full link to the published study.
If you have to send out a press release before publication, the embargo lifts at 10:45am EST on the publication date. The publication date can be discussed with the Production Editor during proofreading. Authors need to send us their proofreading comments together with a target publication date, which should be 2-3 workdays after they return the proofs.
We will not delay publication for longer than 3 workdays.
In any press release, please add the full citation and URL, as provided in the galleys.
