JMIR Publications' peer reviewers now have the option to add records of their completed reviews to ORCID’s Peer Review Activity section.
What is ORCID Peer Review Activity Recognition?
ORCID reviewer recognition is a feature that allows reviewers of scholarly manuscripts to receive credit for their peer review activities on their ORCID profiles. ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) is a unique identifier for researchers that helps connect their work, affiliations, and contributions across the scholarly ecosystem.
Benefits of adding your reviews to an ORCID researcher profile
- Get recognition for reviews–even if they are anonymous and the manuscript is never published.
- Stay compliant with journal policies while showcasing scholarly contributions.
- Easily add current reviews to peer review records.

How Does It Work?
Before we can send your reviews to ORCID, we would need your authorization to do that. We provide two options in the review process for you to give us authorization.
When you accept an invitation to review, on the review form (What does the JMIR Review Form look like?), you will be presented with the option in Your ORCID section to authenticate with ORCID and authorize JMIR the ability to send a record of the review to ORCID before starting the review process:
If JMIR is authorized, ie, grants JMIR permission to share their reviews for reviewer recognition in the section above, the opt-in question for the current review will appear as below:
When you select "Yes" and submit the review, we will then send the record of the review
If JMIR is not authorization to share your reviews for reviewer recognition in the section above, the opt-in question for the current review will appear as below:
When you select “Yes” to adding a verified record of their review to ORCID, the review will be submitted and you will be asked to authorize JMIR with ORCID. If this process is not completed immediately, we will send you a reminder email the next day to allow you to complete the process.
Once the ORCID authorization is completed (either immediately or later via email), the review will be sent to ORCID. Otherwise, no action will be taken.
The following information is included when we send the review to ORCID.
- Your ORCID
- Review Complete Date
- Review URL
- Journal Name
- Article Title
The actual content of the review is not shared.
