We recognize that peer reviewers play a critical role in maintaining the quality and integrity of research and want to formally acknowledge this essential work. Since 2024 we have partnered with the Web of Science Reviewer Recognition Service (formerly Publons) to provide JMIR Publications peer reviewers with official recognition for their contributions.
What is Web of Science Reviewer Recognition?
Web of Science Reviewer Recognition Service (formerly Publons) is a free service for researchers to effortlessly track, verify, and showcase their peer review contributions. The service records the number of papers you have reviewed for a journal while maintaining reviewer anonymity in accordance with each journal’s review policy.
Benefits of adding your reviews to a Web of Science researcher profile
- Get recognition for your reviews–even if they are anonymous and the manuscript is never published. Your peer-review contributions will appear on the Web of Science researcher profile if you opt in (see video above and screenshot below)
- Stay compliant with journal policies while showcasing your scholarly contributions.
- Easily add current and past reviews to your record.
Example of the Web of Science Researcher profile with verified peer-reviews. Selecting the option to add your peer-review record will add peer-review activity to your records, which you can export as CV
How Does It Work?
When you submit a review for any JMIR Publications journal using the review form (What does the JMIR Review Form look like?) you will be asked if you want to add a record of that review to Web of Science.
If you select "Yes" and submit the review, you will receive a Reviewer Recognition email with a link to add the review to your researcher profile once the decision for that round is made. Your name, email address, the year of the review and the name of the journal will be sent to Web of Science. Your name and email address are used to identify your researcher profile, and the year of the review as well as the name of the journal will be visible in it. The actual content of the review is not shared or displayed.
After you have added your first review, you can choose to have all future reviews performed for JMIR Publications journals automatically added to your profile without receiving further emails. Simply enable the “Automatically add reviews for partnered journals” option in your Web of Science researcher profile settings.
