The Conflicts of Interest (COI) section appears after the Acknowledgments and Authors’ Contribution sections, near the end of the article. All manuscripts must have a COI section; if authors haven’t included a COI statement in their manuscript, copyeditors need to ask them for one.
Authors must declare conflicts of interests according to the journal guidelines outlined here:
How does JMIR define a Conflict of Interest (COI)?
Formatting guidelines
- The section should be titled “Conflicts of Interest”
- If the author states there is no conflict of interest, enter “None declared.”
- If the author provides a lengthy sentence that basically reports no conflicts of interest, replace the text with “None declared.”
- If the author is also an editor for a JMIR Publications journal, use the following template:
[XX] is the [role, eg, editor-in-chief, associate editor, guest editor, advisor] of [Journal Name] at the time of this publication. [XX] had no involvement in the editorial review and processing of this manuscript.
- [XX] are the initials of the editor. The journal name should be italicized and written out in full (eg, JMIR XR and Spatial Computing).
For example:
- INCORRECT:
Conflicts of Interest
The authors do not have any personal financial interests related to the subject matters discussed in this manuscript.
- CORRECT:
Conflicts of Interest
None declared.
