The copyediting step 2 is the final chance for the author to make any language or data changes.
The proofreading stage is intended to catch any errors in the PDF galley's formatting, and other important errors. We typically allow up to 15-20 corrections at this stage. If more changes are requested, we reserve the right to reject discretionary (non-important) changes. We do not allow renumbering of references at this stage. A reference cannot be deleted, please find a replacement reference instead.
As authors already had a final opportunity during copyediting to make changes in the content, more substantial, discretionary changes incur additional charges at this stage.
If discretionary correction requests are made at the proofreading step, which are not the journals' / typesetters' responsibility but should have been raised during the copyediting and refcheck process, we may reject making these changes but give the author the option to pay an additional charge of $190 to make more than 20 corrections. Please contact billing-support@jmir.org if you wish this option.
