As of 2021 -02-23 The Crowdfunding Widget is not longer available.
JMIR authors can now add a crowdfunding widget to their article, soliciting small donations from the public for their research and their future publication costs.
Any donations will be credited to the author and can be used for future Article Processing Fees (APF) or paid out.
The crowdfunding widget currently appears automatically (by default) on all articles in JMIR Research Protocols, and can be ordered as an add-on in the APF-payment checkout page for all other journals as described in the article How can I order/pay for knowledge dissemination add-ons like TrendMD or sponsored Tweets? .
Note: for papers accepted into the COVID-19 theme issue (or any paper related to the COVID-19 pandemic), we are unable to offer the sponsored tweet service. This is due to a restriction on promoted tweets regarding the pandemic and any information. The sponsored tweet option should not be selected during the payment process. We would instead recommend using our TrendMD manuscript promotion tool.
This is currently in beta-test and the design of the widget as well as pay-out/redeem policies are subject to change.
How author can see and redeem crowdfunding credits
On their user homepage, authors can see the credits they received from donations of third parties (next to prepaid credits). See screenshot below. The credits can be used to pay any JMIR invoice, or can be cashed out if it exceeds US$2500.
Disabling the Crowdfunding Widget
If you are an author and do not wish the crowdfunding widget displayed in your article, please file a support ticket with firstname.lastname@example.org requesting removal. You will not be able to accumulate any credits for this paper.
