JMIR requires the prospective registration of Randomized Controlled Trials (including protocols). Other trial designs are optional.
Trial registrations should be added to the metadata of your article as part of the Abstract using the specific "Trial Registration" field. They can also be mentioned in-text in the manuscript itself. Trial registrations should not be added to your reference list unless the database itself is being studied.
JMIR authors used to be asked to add a WebCite link for the database URL to their trial registration; however, since December 2018 this is no longer mandatory due to WebCite phasing out its service to the community.
In the Abstract, your trial registration should be formatted as follows:
[Name of Database] [trial number]; [database URL]
ClinicalTrials.gov NCT12345678; https://clinicaltrials.gov/ct2/show/NCT12345678
Common databases include:
- Australian New Zealand Clinical Trials Registry (Australia & New Zealand)
- Netherlands Trial Register (Netherlands)
- ISRCTN Registry (United Kingdom)
- ClinicalTrials.gov (United States)
- PROSPERO (systematic reviews)
