- A DOI, or Digital Object Identifier, is a string of numbers, letters and symbols used to permanently identify an article or document and link to it on the web. A DOI will help readers to easily locate a document from your citation
- A DOI from JMIR publications always starts with the doi prefix 10.2196/... (and the URL is always http://dx.doi.org/10.2196/...)
- JMIR assigns DOIs (Digital Object Identifiers) to articles and preprints (manuscript versions)
- Please use DOIs whenever you cite a JMIR article or preprint
- Please also use DOIs from other publishers in your citations, as this will help our RefCheck process (What is the RefCheck process?)
- The format of DOIs for JMIR articles is http://dx.doi.org/10.2196/[manuscript-number] (for manuscript IDs9999), as explained in the article As author, how can I cite my accepted but not yet published article (in press/forthcoming JMIR article)
- The DOI of a JMIR preprint always has the format http://dx.doi.org/10.2196/preprints.9390 where 9390 is the manuscript ID of the original submission (add .1, .2 etc for each revision)
- The DOI format for accepted version is the same as the published/final DOI.
- We do not presently assign DOIs for sub-objects of an article (e.g. figures or tables)
