Peer reviewers provide the specialized expertise and critical validation needed to ensure the integrity of scientific discovery. To honor this vital contribution, JMIR Publications awards Karma points for reviews that meet our scholarly standards. For complete details, please see Karma Reviewer Rewards Program.
If you have completed a review but do not see the credits in your Karma Statement, it is likely due to one of the following reasons:
- The final editorial decision has not been reached. Karma points are awarded only after a final decision (Accept or Reject) is made on the manuscript. You do not receive points immediately after submitting your individual critique; the entire peer-review process, which may involve multiple rounds, must be complete.
- You did not opt in during submission. To participate in the program, you must opt-in prior to or at the point of submitting your review.
- The review did not meet the merit threshold. Karma points are awarded for reviews that meet JMIR Publications’ standards for thoroughness and rigor. Reviews that do not meet this merit threshold (rated 1 or 2 by the editorial team) are ineligible for rewards. For more guidance and details about review ratings, see How to Write a High-Quality Peer Review.
- The statement is currently being updated. Once a final decision is reached, points typically appear in your account within 24 hours. If a decision was just made, please allow a short window for the system to refresh.
If you have verified the above and still believe your balance is incorrect, please contact our team at support@jmir.org.
