The purpose of a paid Author Interview video is to explain and summarize the key findings of an article. It gives the author the ability to express their views of the main study, and increase the overall impact of their work in this increasingly digital and multimedia age. Such a representation of the study also allows for increased dissemination of the research article to a broad audience via our social media channels.
How does it work?
Authors can order two forms of video (Author Interview or SciComm Reel), as part of the Knowledge Translation service offering, upon acceptance of their paper by JMIR Publications or later in the production process.
JMIR Publications is excited to be working with Boston-based physician leader Jennifer Joe, MD, who has worked closely with academic medicine, digital health, renowned publishers, and large non-profit organizations in their digital transformation and digital-platform community building for almost 10 years. JMIR Publications will share your JMIR Author Interview across Dr. Joe’s social network on Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook, reaching an audience of over 70,000+ followers composed of clinicians, academic institutions, and large physician and scientific non-profit organizations. Dr. Joe was recently named number 18 on the 'Fifty Most Influential Voices in Health Care for 2021'
The author video will be shared via our JMIR social media channels together with the paper, and will be embedded on the article page under a tab labeled ‘video’, as well as to Dr. Jennifer Joe’s social media pages.
JMIR Publications knowledge translation tools are an evidence-based strategy that has been shown to enhance the impact of a publication.
What are the two video options?
Option 1 - JMIR Author Interview + New Audience Distribution
Designed to elevate your message and bring a human element to traditional science, the JMIR Author Interview is an article highlight video produced in the format of a traditional author interview.
Our expert technical team reviews your paper for the essence and context and prepares short, tailored questions to draw out the message, the story, and the personality of the author. Our production team will schedule a 30-minute video call with the author and the host Dr. Jennifer Joe, and record the interview. Ahead of the interview, we will also send preparation tips for an effective video interview. The production team then edits and produces a 3-5 minute JMIR Author Interview video.
After the production of the JMIR Author Interview, we will place this video on the JMIR journal website next to your paper and share through our JMIR social media network on YouTube, Twitter, LinkedIn and Facebook, reaching an audience of over 40,000+ followers composed of academic researchers, authors, and healthcare and science professionals. We also encourage participating authors to share it on their personal social media accounts and in more traditional academic venues.

Option 2 - JMIR SciComm Reel + New Audience Distribution
Ideal for new company products or complicated science concepts, the JMIR Publications SciComm Reel is a short promotional video that combines a range of emotion-provoking music, product or illustrative photos, and author interview clips and institutional information to quickly deliver complicated messages with the most impact.
Designed for social media promotion or as a highlight reel that can be embedded on your personal/institutional website, the JMIR SciComm Reel is 1-3 minutes long and leverages the JMIR production, editorial, multimedia, and creative expertise.

How can I opt in for this service?
This Knowledge Translation tool can be ordered when you check out and pay the APF for your article.
We recommend combining this option with our sponsored tweet service to further enhance dissemination.
Once you opt for one of our video options, we will reach out to you with a brief questionnaire to understand the key messages of your article which you would like to talk about, and to schedule a video interview which would be recorded.
