The purpose of a paid Author Interview video is to explain and summarize the key findings of an article. It gives the author the ability to express their views of the main study, and increase the reach of their work in this increasingly digital and multimedia age.
JMIR Publications is excited to be offering multimedia and communication services to help researchers increase the overall impact of their work, whether that be growth in traditional metrics (such as citations) or greater public engagement and understanding. JMIR currently has 2 options for author interview videos, both offered alongside our new audience distribution service.
You can see the complete list of JMIR’s Knowledge Translation services.
Option 1: JMIR Author Interview + New Audience Distribution
Designed to elevate the author’s message using them as a vehicle for storytelling, the JMIR Author Interview is a short highlight video produced in the format of a traditional author interview.
Our production team schedules a video call with the author and conducts the interview. The production team then edits and produces a 3-8 minute video JMIR Author Interview.
The JMIR Author Interview is designed to be used on social media, as a highlight video next to the paper, and in more traditional academic venues such as laboratory homepages.
Both offerings are available to all authors, though we recommend the Author Video for researchers interested in promoting their work and story to their peers.
Cost: $1100

Option 2: JMIR SciComm + New Audience Distribution
Ideal for new company products or complicated science concepts, the JMIR SciComm Reel is a short promotional video designed to quickly deliver complicated messages with high impact. The SciComm Reel combines Dr. Jennifer Joe’s skills as a knowledge translator with a range of product or illustrative photos, author soundbites, and evocative music to fluidly deliver complex ideas.
Designed for social media, or as a highlight video on your website or LinkedIn profile, the JMIR SciComm Reel is 2-4 minutes long and covers the key points of a product or research project in a succinct and easily digestible format.
Both offerings are available to all authors, though we recommend the SciComm Reel for researchers seeking lay public engagement, and businesses looking to expand their reach to funders via Dr. Joe’s professional network.
Cost: $3500.

Included in Options 1 & 2: Promotion & New Audience Distribution
Included in both offerings is promotion of your video through our various social media channels. After production, we will post this video on the JMIR website beside your paper and share it through our social media network on Twitter, LinkedIn, Instagram, Facebook, and YouTube, reaching an audience of over 40,000, composed of academic researchers, authors, industry experts, and health care and science professionals.
JMIR has also partnered with Boston-based physician leader—Jennifer Joe, MD—who has worked closely with academic medicine, medical technology funders, and large non-profit organizations in their digital platform community building for almost 10 years. JMIR will share your video across Dr. Joe’s social network on Twitter, LinkedIn, and Facebook, reaching an audience of over 70,000 followers composed of clinicians, academic institutions, and large organizations centered on both non- and for-profit investment in science.

Alternative Option: Visual Abstracts
As part of its Knowledge Translation services, JMIR also offers Visual Abstracts—eye-catching infographics that summarize the key findings of a study. The easy-to-read format helps make the research more accessible to a broad audience; our multimedia specialist will work with you to create a visual abstract that is both striking and informative.
This is an excellent option for budget-conscious researchers looking to distribute their work at a presentation or to a broader audience through social media.
Cost: $500 (small format) $1000 (large format) - apply your Karma Credits
You can view all of the Visual Abstracts we have produced in our Visual Abstract Gallery.
