JMIR Publications is pleased to offer a limited number of article processing fee (APF) waivers to support early-career researchers who have completed their PhD or doctorate within the past five years (2020-2025). We understand that career paths vary and will consider career breaks due to family responsibilities, medical leave, or other extenuating circumstances.
Eligibility: To apply, you must be an early-career researcher who has completed a PhD or doctorate within the past five years. We welcome applications from eligible researchers interested in publishing in the following JMIR Publications’ journals:
JMIR Bioinformatics and Biotechnology
A total of 5 awards will be offered, the award package will include:
- Article processing fee waiver to one of the above mentioned journals (The current APF for these journals is $1,500)
- Publicity press release in EurekAlert! & DigitalHealthScience.org
- Digital certificate
- Digital badge
- A featured blog post on the JMIR Publications blog
- Formal awards ceremony webinar where the winners will have 5 min each to present their research topics
- Framed version of their published article
- Ecollection of the winning articles
What to Submit:
- Information about your research program.
- A completed original research manuscript.

How to Apply:
The application period for the Early Career Researcher Award program is now closed, please stay tuned for the announcement of the award winners and details for the 2026 program.
Selection Process:
- Priority will be given to manuscripts that align with the journals' scope and demonstrate scientific rigor and innovation. A jury of JMIR Publications’ editors will review all applications. If selected for the award, you will be required to formally submit your manuscript for consideration.
- All manuscripts submitted will undergo JMIR Publications' standard peer-review process.
- Selection for the waiver does not guarantee manuscript acceptance, and the APF waiver is non-transferable.
- Please carefully review the eligibility criteria outlined in the application form. Applications that do not meet these criteria will be rejected. Successful applicants will receive a promo code for a full APF waiver for publication.
- Please note that once the application form has been submitted, no edits or resubmissions will be accepted. Only one submission per applicant is allowed, and all information must be final at the time of submission.

- Only original research articles will be considered.
