JMIR Publications follows the widely used AMA Manual of Style (11th edition) available here for all its journals.
JMIR Publications employs professional internal and external copyeditors (What are the steps during copyediting? and What are the authors' responsibilities during copyediting?) to give you the best copyediting service and to bring articles into our journal style based on the AMA Manual. As such, authors do not have to worry too much about the style on initial submission, although it does shorten the production process after acceptance if the article is fairly in AMA Style. In addition, if the references are properly formatted and have PMIDs/DOIs, it helps us find reviewers for articles.
For details on our editorial style guidelines, please see: JMIR's style and editorial guidelines
