- Authors no longer communicate with the academic editor after acceptance; once your article is accepted, it will be handled by our production staff. All questions pertaining to the copyediting process should be directed to copyed-support@jmir.org and those pertaining to the typesetting/author proofreading process should be directed to prod-support@jmir.org.
- Remove all metadata (title, abstract, authors, author affiliations) from the manuscript file, and enter them in the metadata form instead (How do I edit/correct/enter article metadata before publication?). Make sure the title adheres to our title guidelines and includes the method/design (What are JMIR's guidelines for article titles?).
- Upload the clean final manuscript version (metadata removed, tracked changes removed, reference manager codes removed), as well as the figures and supplementary files. Do a final check of the references before you do so, as they are difficult to change during copyediting (we usually discourage the addition of references during copyediting). To upload:
- Go to the Review tab at the top of your article page
- Under "Upload Revised Manuscript, Appendices, Figures", click on the "Upload Manuscript" button and upload the latest version of your manuscript
- Click on the green "Submit File" button
- Tweet/share your excitement on social media! Depending on the settings you chose for your accepted manuscript PDF during submission, your accepted paper may be available and citable at https://preprints.jmir.org/preprint/[ArticleID] (How do I change my preprint settings or availability of preprints?)
- Find or create a good, original TOC image - the image will not only be used in our table of contents, but also in all social media posts and tweets. See What makes a good TOC image? While we can find one for you, we prefer author-generated ones. We can also use your existing figures, in particular if your image shows a new device (e.g. a patient with a VR headset) or a screenshot of a new app etc.
- Collect ORCIDs from all your coauthors and enter ORCIDs for all authors in the metadata form (What is an ORCID?).
- Also make sure that all authors sign the license to publish form (JMIR Publications' Digital Licence to Publish; via Dropbox Sign). While we will not insist on this being completed when we start copyediting, they do need to be completed before we can publish your paper.
- If you opt in for "PubMed Now!" you can index your article immediately in PubMed (What is the "PubMed Now!" ("ahead-of-print") option when I pay the APF?)
- Usually you have to pay an APF, see payment information and link in the acceptance email. See Payments FAQ if you have any questions. We will not be able to initiate the next steps (copyediting etc.) before payment has been received. Delaying the payment will lead to a delay in publication.
- Once payment has been received, we will initiate the copyediting process, see Copyediting Steps
- Consider to inform the press office of your university / institution so they can prepare a press release, see also Our paper is accepted for publication and we would like to coordinate a press release. What is the process?
- We will typeset the paper and you receive the PDF galleys for final proofreading and approval
- We publish the paper and promote it and you'll be famous :)
- Repeat: Cash in your karma credits which you gained from authoring a paper (see Karma Credits - What are they and how to collect them?) and use this as discount for future submissions... become a regular and productive author. Please note that, because of a system change, the Karma credit program will be put on hold - accruals end on Jul 31, 2022, and redemptions must be made before Oct 31, 2022. Please read the KB article on Karma Credit Sunset for more information.
